Art Space Gallery is thrilled to host the Student Exhibition after two years of adjusted formats due to the pandemic. This exhibition showcases the exciting work being done by students across disciplines in the Fresno City College Art Department. You can expect to see drawing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, multimedia work, printmaking, and more at this eclectic show.
This is a juried exhibition with awards given for outstanding work in each media category.
Carissa Garcia is an art consultant, researcher, and culture worker who has managed projects ranging from film production and community engagement, to the production of murals and large-scale exhibitions. Most recently, she co-curated the groundbreaking exhibition Boom Oaxaca (Arte Américas, 2022) funded by the McClatchy Fresno Foundation for the Arts. She is currently a Lecturer at Fresno State in Chicano and Latin American Studies, teaching courses in Chicano Art, Media, and Chicana/Latina Writing. As a Eugene Cota Robles fellow at UCLA, she worked for four years on a doctoral degree and currently holds a Masters of Arts degree in Chicana and Chicano Studies with an emphasis in Expressive Arts.
Audia Yvonne Dixon is an artist working in large scale oil paintings. She comes from a family of artists and matriarchs who continue to influence her work. Dixon holds a BA in Art from CSU-Fresno (2016) and is recently earned an MA in Studio Art, also at CSU-Fresno (2021). Most recently, her solo exhibition Eden was on view at Fresno City College. Her other exhibitions and public art projects include the Fresno Yosemite International Airport (Dec 2021); the graduate thesis exhibition at the Phebe Conley Gallery at CSU Fresno (November 2021); collaborative murals Know your Soil, Grow in Earth & Rest and Rising Together, both part of Dulce Upfront’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing” mural tour (2020); and a solo exhibition at 1418 Fulton in Downtown Fresno.
Both jurors are Fresno City College alumnae.
