advertisement “The new system will be put in place from this weekend”, said KMC BoA chairman, Firhad Hakim.

According to a report published in the Times of India (TOI), the newly introduced WhatsApp facility will replace the existing ‘drop box’ system of applying for birth or death certificates. A KMC health department official was quoted by TOI as saying that under the drop-box system, thousands of applications were left pending for several months. However, under the new system, a citizen will just need to book a slot through WhatsApp, following which he will be allotted time by the designated officer to visit the civic headquarters.

The officer will then meet the applicants and do the needful after verifying the necessary documents, a KMC official added. According to a KMC official associated with the birth and death certificate wing, the new system will bring transparency in the issuance of birth and death certificates, TOI revealed in its report.
